Special General Conference Information

In February 2019 the United Methodist Church will hold a Special General Conference to discuss two topics of church polity.

1 - Will the United Methodist Church ordain Gay and Lesbian clergy?

2 - Will United Methodist Clergy be permitted to officiate at same-sex weddings?

Currently the United Methodist Book of Discipline (our "rule book") prohibits the ordination of "self-avowed and practicing homosexuals" as well as prohibits clergy from officiating at same-sex marriages. While there are those within the church who wish to keep this traditional view, there are others who would like to change these rules to allow for full inclusion of the LGBT community within United Methodism. The following links provide information about the Special General Conference, where these topics will be discussed, as well as information about the various plans that will be voted on in February.  We encourage everyone to educate themselves on these topics and decisions within the church.
